MASSAGE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The Athens Institute for Massage offers a 600 hr. massage career training program. Basic techniques include Swedish Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Bowen Therapy, and Acupressure. Deep tissue techniques and energy healing traditions are also taught as a part of our core classes. Science courses include anatomy, physiology, and pathology.Massage Theory and Application - 435 hrs. (includes 6 hrs. Ethics & 10 hrs. Business)
This core course provides an introduction to the history of massage, anatomy, theory, research, documentation, assessment, ethics, law and business management. Students will acquire knowledge of the medical massage therapy field as an allied health care profession. Students complete a 100 hr. internship.
Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology- 165 hrs. (includes 40 hrs. Pathology)
This general and specific study of anatomy and physiology includes medical terminology, major systems of the body, pathology, and kinesiology. Pathologies of each system of the body are presented. An innovative part of this program is the Anatomy in Clay project. Students work with clay to build a scale model of the human musculoskeletal system.
